Tag Archives: Eastern Chesapeake Bay Cruising

This is officially a cruising blog! It has made the transformation from a maintenance/project blog to a cruising blog.

We left the pier today at 1500, made a quick stop in shallow water to scrape barnacles off the prop (Cay of Sea has been sitting in her slip for two months, and it was pretty crusty), waved goodbye to the home folks who were waving to us from the shore as we rounded the jetty, and set off across the bay.

I would like to tell you that we had a spirited sail across to Tilghlman Island, but alas. We motored. Wind on the nose, and it was getting late. No time for zig-zagging across the bay if we wanted to get there before nightfall. We turned left past Knapps Narrows and holed up in a familiar anchorage – Dunn Cove, where well will wait to rendesvous with our sailing friends with whom we conceived the cruise for this summer.

We’ll spend the night rafted up, folllowing a council of war (aka route planning), then head North on Thursday morning.

Tonight we find out if we forgot anything, and we test all of our changes made to Cay of Sea. So far, so good. Everything works the way we hoped.

Okay – good night for now. Talk to you tomorrow.

Closing in on 2200 now. Dinner cooked and eaten, dishes washed, blog posted. I think it’s time for showers and bed, where we will test our newly stuffed and reformed vee-berth cushions, with our custom fitted sheets, and (joy of joys!) our vee-berth fan!

We’re off!

From July 8:

Ruth and I are cruising this week, and hope to update you as we go. Our tentative destinations are Eastern Bay area (St. Michaels, Cambridge, Wye River), and we are looking forward to easy days on the water, lots of time at anchor with books and small projects, and gentle exploration of our surroundings. Please come with us as I post as often as cell service allows.

Also, look forward to Ruth’s posts from her sketchbook journal published on ruthbaileyart.wordpress.com.
